Research and Planning-Evaluation of College Magazine

On my college magazine front cover, I have included a many features of a magazine front cover. I have included a masthead which was in big, blue writing as "YOUR CLARENDON." My college magazine front cover also consists of a slugline which is situated under the masthead telling the audience of the issue and what date the magazine was produced. Stories are also included in my college magazine front cover aswell as the price and the barcode. I also included a medium close up so I have included the basics of a college magazine front cover.
However there are disadvantages to my college magazine front cover as from the audiences point of view, because I have used completely different colours for my front cover and contents page, viewers wouldn't think that they belong to the same magazine. I also think that the picture that I have taken is a bit plain in the background. You could argue if it follows the three colour rule because it consists mainly of the colours green, blue and red but there are other colours included because of the background colour of my image. Another positive that I could add is that to viewers the stories seem interesting and are appropriate. They would interest a different range of people and include the social side of college and and the working side of college. Another negative by looking at my contents page is that it doesnt include a page number so the reader wouldn't know what page it is displayed on.
To sum up, there are a wide range of positives and negatives on my front cover and contents page. For my music magazine, I think that that i need to concentrate a lot on my choice of colours and to choose colours which would go well with each other.

In this lesson, I was in the group of 3 and our task was to ask several students around college questions about the college magazine. We asked the following questions:

1. What would you associate with college? 

2. What stories do you want to read about?

3. How much are you willing to pay for it?

4. What sport activities would you like to hear about? 5. What articles would you want in the magazine to appeal to you? The answers that we received showed that people around college were interested in sport and socializing with new friends. Other popular answers that were given were that college was all about their studying and education.

Research and Planning- Characteristics of a College Magazine Front Cover

This college magazine has a masthead which is "College" in big red writing. This grabs the audience's attention straight away as it is bold and the colour red is a major factor in catching the attention of younger people. This magazine also includes stories and they are really catchy as their headlines are in bold and black writing. This blends in well with the background and it is easily seen as the background is a lighter colour and is the the distance there are some buildings to show that there is a life in front of them in this big wide world. This magazine also includes a slugline which is situated underneath the title on the left and the issue number and date underneath the title on the right. There is also a barcode and price on this magazine which is located at the bottom left.

I copied and pasted a film review of The Inbetweeners movie from the internet and transferred it to indeshop. I then copied an image from google of The Inbetweeners. The next step was adding a title to my work which was the name of the movie. I then changed the background to blue which to add colour to my work. I then clicked on object at the top of the page to have the text in front of the colour.

We had to complete 8 steps on photoshop. Firstly I had to open an A4 document by selecting "file" and "new." I had to change the colour to red by using the brush tool and i had to chance the size of the writing to 24 with the font as "Century Gothic." I had to put this in the centre of the page. I also changed the colour of the background to blue so i selected the bucket tool to select the whole background.  I then gave the text a drop shadow which followed by me save an image of Wayne Rooney on google and putting it on photoshop. I changed his hair colour to black by once again using the brush tool. i then placed a border around my image.

In photoshop, firstly i used the spot healing brush to cover up spots that wouldn't be wanted. Secondly i gave the picture eye shadow by using the brush tool. I also used the brush tool again but used a different colour to add lipstick to her face. The brush tool was used a lot in this piece of work as i added eyelashes and i added a bit of colour to her hair.

Research and Planning: Introduction to Photoshop

In this piece of work, i used photoshop to do a CD cover. I used the magic wand tool which cut out each image that i wanted like the trumpet and the CD.  We also put our own title on this by using the text box and we changed the font of the writing.
